Morning Prayers

Opening Verse (to meditate briefly and prepare your heart for prayer)

God is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Those who take refuge in God will not know condemnation. Psalm 34: 18, 22

Call to Worship

Come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand. (Ps. 95: 6-7)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Song of Affirmation – Be Thou My Visionhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CMclLT_Hjg

Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart,

naught be all else to thee save that thou art.

Thou my best thought by day or by night.

Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my wisdom and Thou my true word.

I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord.

Thou my great Father and I Thy true son.

Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one.

Unison Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. AMEN.

The Gospel: John 15: 4-5

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

For Reflection

O God… may I come into the presence of still waterand feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time may I rest in the grace of your world, and be free. (adapted) – Wendell Berry

Benediction

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

La gracia del Señor Jesucristo, el amor de Dios, y la comunión del Espíritu Santo, sean con todos vosotros. Amén. (2 Corintios 13;14)

Evening Prayers

Opening Verse (to meditate in silence and prepare your heart for prayer)

From Mark 6:31
Jesus said, “Come away with me to a quiet place and rest for a while.”

Call to Worship and Initial Prayer

Psalm 100

Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth.

Serve the LORD with gladness;

Come before Him with joyful singing.

Know that the LORD Himself is God;

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise.

Give thanks to Him; bless His name.

For the LORD is good; His loving kindness is everlasting,

And His faithfulness is to all generations.

Open unto me – light for my darkness.

Open unto me – courage for my fear.

Open unto me – hope for my despair.

Open unto me – peace for my turmoil.

Open unto me – joy for my sorrow.

Open unto me – strength for my weakness.

Open unto me – wisdom for my confusion.

Open unto me – forgiveness for my sin.

Open unto me – tenderness for my toughness.

Open unto me – love for my hate.

Open unto me – Yourself for myself.

Lord, Lord – Open unto me.

-Howard Thurman

Prayer and Doxology

Praise be to you, Lord God of all creation.

For the gift of this day…

For the joy of this hour…

For the Holy Spirit that is present now…

I lift my heart in praise.

Receive my gratitude as I count my many blessings.

(singing)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures, here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host.
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Litany of Confession

Lord, I have taken my blessings for granted… forgive me my sin.

I have mistaken the finite for the Infinite… forgive me my sin.

I have settled for something less than whole… forgive me my sin.

I have celebrated what is less than beautiful… forgive me my sin.

I have lived in ways less than loving… forgive me my sin.

Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned… (silent confession)

Words of Assurance: Psalm 34:18, 22

God is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.

Those who take refuge in God will not know condemnation.

Gospel Reading: John 15:4-5

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Prayer: Intercessions for a College Campus

God of all comfort, hear my prayers:

For those today whose lives have become too full…

and for those who need places of involvement.

For those who lack discipline to study…

and for those who lack permission to play.

For those whose faith is shaking…

and for those whose faith needs to be shaken.

For those who are sick, who are grieving, who are wounded, who are worried…

and for those who will walk beside them.

For those who need inspiration

and for those who need to be inspiring.

For the health of our community…

and for the wholeness of all your children in it….

(Offer your own prayer requests now)

For all these I pray through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Benediction

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Isaiah 41:10
